Norwegian training and mapping
The introduction class follows the curriculum for basic Norwegian for language minorities subject. This is a level based plan regardless of age. The pupils must complete level 1 and have started level 2 before transfer to their local school. In addition to Norwegian training, the pupils will receive courses in society and science, topics treating social skills, mathematics, gymnastics, music and arts and craft.
The time needed to learn Norwegian is very individual. The number of months in the Introduction class may vary from 10 months to maximum two years. Mapping tests confirm when the pupil can be transferred to their local school. The contact teacher and the coordinator choose the right moment for the transfer. Parents and the local school will be informed well in advance.
Before transfer to the local school, the pupils will visit the school regularly one day per week. In 2011/2012 this day is Wednesday. A smooth transition from the Introduction class to the local school makes the transition easier and more comforting for the pupils.
The teachers in the Introduction class organize a transition meeting with the local school. All information and analysis are transferred during this meeting.
